Making Education More Accessible: MentorWorks Education Capital Partners with Boston-based, XR Terra, to Provide Income Share Agreement Financing Option for Students
BOSTON (PRWEB) FEBRUARY 06, 2020
MentorWorks Education Capital today announced an agreement to provide Income Share Agreement (ISA) funding for students participating in XR Terra’s AR/VR training program.
XR Terra students will be able to take advantage of this new funding source to finance their AR/VR training program. Upon completion, students will begin repayment of the ISA if they meet a designated minimum income threshold. MentorWorks will also assist with wrap-around career development support, as well as access to employers.
As an alternative to traditional student loans, ISAs create a new means for students to finance their education at an affordable cost through the MentorWorks’ ISA program. Rather than carrying many years of unmanageable private loan debt with high interest and no added value, students with an ISA only begin repayment if they secure a job above a minimum income level. The payments are an affordable and fixed percentage of their gross annual income for a fixed number of years. Combined with its leading career development and employer partnership programs, the MentorWorks’ ISA program catalyzes access to education for U.S. domestic students and is particularly beneficial to those from lower income and underserved minority backgrounds.
“XRTerra has an impressive and thoughtfully designed program in an area with strong employer demand, and we look forward to working with them as partners. We’re thrilled to offer these terrific students the option of ISA financing combined with our career enhancement platform and network of career advisors and employer partners,” said Karthik Krishnan, CEO and Co-founder of MentorWorks. “We have seen that the lack of financial and social capital inhibits education and career opportunities for students seeking additional training and skills. Students from underserved backgrounds have limited financial means and often lack the network and connections that can ‘pick up the phone’ to help them connect to the right folks to get a job. Our program addresses both parts of the problem, creating a comprehensive solution to the current student debt crisis.”
“The use of immersive technologies like AR and VR is growing fast across all industries, from industrial manufacturing to healthcare and education, and there’s a high demand for new talent. XR Terra’s mission is to enable professionals from diverse backgrounds to become expert creators in AR and VR. With our partnership with MentorWorks, we are able to make the program more accessible and to empower a larger ecosystem of creators in immersive technologies.” said Janet Kang, CEO and Co-Founder of XR Terra.
