In recent years, school options for students in America have increased rapidly with the number of higher educational institutions, certificate programs, and skill-based learning initiatives that have come to market. With so many avenues available for skill development and career-focused education in place, it can be difficult to make a decision about what program is right for aspiring students and adult learners. This post covers what certificate programs are, how they work, how much they cost, and when they make sense as a good source of skill and practical knowledge.

Many recent high school graduates and adult learners are turning towards alternative forms of education like certificate programs in an effort to compete in the job market. This is a good move for many, as the cost of attending these programs is comparatively low. Also, the outcomes can be positive for the right set of programs and, based on the skills obtained over that period of time.

Certificate programs, unlike degree programs, are typically short-term (ranging from 2 to 12 months) programs, and cost substantially less than degrees to achieve similar career objectives. In some cases, certificates can cost $10,000 and take 3 to 6 months relative to a state school tuition of $80,000 over 4 years.

The trade-off is that certificates offer skills and not an accredited credential. Many employers are now willing to consider such non-degree credentials, especially from good certificate programs. More programs are being delivered online due to Covid-19, but some still offer in-class options. What are the characteristics of a good cert?

The best way to understand a program is to either email or call them up and discuss questions or concerns you may have.
